West Wales Mini Extravaganza.

If you remember late last year, I told you about a new show that was being organised in Wales for Miniature Shetlands and Miniature Horses.
The Show is called the "West Wales Mini Extravaganza", it is being held at Coombe Park Stables, Peniel, Carmarthen SA32 7HT. On Sunday the 29th April 2012. Lots of classes for everyone - some old, some new and some definitely different.

This show is affiliated to the International Showing Society and is a qualifier for The Royal London Show 2012. It is also affiliated to NPS Area 28 Show, St Clears Show and Llanddarog Show. Negotiations are also ongoing with IMPHS.

New Home For Beau & Barney..

Both my beaut iful boys, Barney & Beau, will be going to a new forever home shortly with the lovely Tomos Family in Pembrokeshire. We are keeping the "Boys" here, until the fencing is done at their new home.
The Tomos's came to visit yesterday and the Children spent some time with the Ponies. Their Daughter chose Barney and their Son chose Beau. I'm totally over the moon that the "Boys", will be going together.
I Love all our Ponies, but I've had a real soft spot for Barney, as he is exceptionally Tiny and has the sweetest temperament. He certainly is a little Pony with the cute factor. When he's got his Winter Wooley's on, he always reminds me of A.L.F. Can you see the resemblance?????...

Can Anyone Help - Who Is Biscuit ?

Today, I was contacted by a lovely Lady named Laura.
She is trying to trace any information on her Rescued Miniature Shetland Pony, who is called Biscuit.
Biscuits story is that he was found around 2006/07 . Laura was told, by the rescue centre, that he had been thrown out of a transit van, over a 5 bar gate into a farmers field and dumped. He was taken to a small family owned rescue centre in Kent (which closed down last year). But he wasn't Micro-chipped, which he is now. Laura got Biscuit from the rescue centre 3 years ago in July 2008 and has spent lots of time, building his trust in people again. The first three pictures are from Laura's & Biscuits first show last weekend. As you can see he is a much loved Pony now.
Biscuit is around 31-33 inches tall and was an entire Stallion when dumped. The rescue centre had him gelded, and their Vet estimated his date of birth as approximately 1998.
Laura would really like to know his history and also be able to register him with the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society.
Laura is sure he was once owned by some nice people and was maybe stolen to cover mares and then dumped. She contacted me, as on reading my blog, she saw, that we came from Kent and wanted to know if we'd lost or had a Pony Stolen.
So does anyone recognise him? or have any information that could help Laura, track Biscuits breeding?
Any help would be gratefully received.

Been pretty busy here over the last week.
Kai has gone off to a new home in Pembrokeshire, with the Thomas Family. They came to view him and ended up taking him home with them that evening. We wish them every success with him. They are going to stay in touch and I'm looking forward to seeing the Foals from their Mares next year.
Harry helped me get the Mares and Foals into the yard and give the Foals their Wormer, they were definitely not impressed, but it has to be done.
We've also opened up the Fields behind the House, so that the Girls are all mixing together again with the Mum's and Foals.
Today our Farrier Tomos came and did some of the Ponies. He only does a few at a time, as it's hard work on his back, bending nearly in half to do their Hooves.
Been taking lots of pictures of the Ponies. Here are a few of the best ones. If you click on them they will pop up bigger. As you can see the Foals are all doing really well and all play together now. It's lovely to watch them all, charging around the fields.

This is a very heavy photo post.
I took these pictures on 27th May 2011. The Foals are all doing really well.
Draconius, is the smallest of the three, but he loves a cuddle. Dionysus, is in your face, so much so, that he sticks his head right in front of the Camera, as you can see by the top picture.
Demetrius, is the more aloof one, he will only come up for a cuddle when he wants too.
Its really lovely to watch them all playing together in the field. They have a mad half hour and then crash out.

After much debate, since this little one has been born. Harry has finally decided to call him Draconius, Draco for short.

Now That Was A Nice Shock....

Now that was a shock, in the nicest possible way.
Tiger Lily has been bagged up for a few days and we've been expecting her to Foal at any time.
But having checked on her, in the Barn last night at 12.30, before we went to bed, she was busy munching away on the Hay.
So when we went down this morning to let the Ponies out, it was a shock to find this little one. Tiger Lily, had obviously given birth in the early hours of this morning, to a lovely Skewbald Coloured Colt, as yet he doesn't have a name.
I also spent some time up in the field today, with my Camera and managed to get some video footage of the Foals which I'm sharing on here. Two are in the posts below and I'm just waiting for the last one to load and I'll add it to this blog. There are three very short videos., which I must say have taken forever to load onto YouTube. Another Special Delivery.

Look what we found last night just before we were going to bed. We missed the actual birth by minutes as the Foal was still soaking wet, we think he was born at approx 11.30 - 11.45pm.
The first three pictures were taken last night, the rest I took early this morning. If you click on them, they should pop up bigger.
He seems full of Beans this morning and has been bouncing around the stable, like a little lamb!
He has the most beautiful colouring, Cream Dun with a darker Dorsal stripe.
You can only imagine the relief to have another live Foal. I've been having a cuddle this morning. He's gorgeous.
I think the Boys want to call him Demetrius, which means lover of the earth, given to the Earth goddess Demeter.
He's out in the field with his Mum Lemoney, at the moment, meeting his new play mate Dioynsus and soaking up the Sunshine. Ben's just gone up there with the Camera, so I'm looking forward to seeing what pictures he's able to get..

This morning I took an early morning stroll down to the Stables and look what I found. Far better then an Easter Egg.
Chrizzy had not long given birth to a beautiful Colt Foal. His Sire is Birchwood Viscount. He is a strong little thing and has been jumping around like a Spring Lamb.
He went out in the little Paddock with his Mum for a few hours in the Sunshine, but we've got them in now as its really hot.
This little one has been named and will be called Dionysus, who was the great Olympian god of wine, vegetation, pleasure and festivity.

Hi everyone this is Ben, writing this blog post for Mum.
Mum was worried that the baby wasn't feeding very well last night, so milked the Mum and gave it to the foal. This morning Mum was down the Stables really early and the Foal seemed really cold. Mum put a chair in the Barn and Dad and Mum took it in turns, to sit with the Foal on their laps to warm it up. She rang the emergency Vet, who advised warming the foal as we were doing and rubbing some Honey on its gums to stimulate the sucking reflex. Which we did. Mum also milked Tinkerbell to keep the milk flowing and to keep it in the fridge.
Mum gave me the Foal to hold while she popped indoors and the Foal started labouring. By the time Mum got back to me, the Foal had died in my arms.
Mum is distraught and won't be around for a while. As you can imagine she is now totally stressed out and desperately worried about the other Mums. Especially as we have already lost Lil and her Foal. Its all been very traumatic as Mum Loves her Ponies very much.
I just wanted to let you all know on Mum's behalf.

New Arrival Filly Foal...

Last night as we went to get the Mum's to be in for the night. Harry shouted down the field, that Tinkerbell was in Labour. The bag appeared as he got to her. Then one foot appeared, but not the other. I tried to feel where, the other leg was, but couldn't find it. Panic set in, as I was terrified that we were going to lose another Foal and Mare. I rang the Vet and Angus was here within minutes. He immediately gelled up and found the other leg, which he brought forward. He then attached some rope to the foals legs and a winch and assisted Tinkerbell with the birth. I can honestly say what sheer relief it was, as I saw the foal was breathing. Angus gave Tinks a shot of pain killers and another of Antibiotics, as it had been quite traumatic for her. It's her first Foal.
Debie and the Poppets are staying with us at the moment and watched this Saga going on. Although Debie did take the little man indoors, until I knew that the Foal was alive. Debie, has got all the new born pictures on her Camera, which Megan and Beth took so can't share them with you at the moment.
Once Tinkerbell had settled down a bit, we moved her and her baby into the Barn so that we could keep an eye on them.
These Pictures were taken this morning. Tinks and her baby are doing really well. Baby is feeding well and Tinks has really bonded with her. The Filly Foal (Girl), has yet to be named. We use the Gods and Goddesses names, and this year we are on the letter "D". We were debating up till Midnight last night what to call her, but we are still undecided. I'm sure she will have a name by the end of today. It looks like we could have another arrival or two by the end of the week. So everyone, please keep your finger's crossed for safe arrivals..

In other news my Computer is still poorly, so Ben has let me upload this via his laptop. I need to get an external hard drive, to get all my pictures and documents off of my computer, before Tux can mess about with the hard drive, in case we lose everything. It's a total nightmare...

Artsplace Firelight - 2.5.2002 - 1.4.2011

Unfortunately our lovely Lil lost her battle yesterday.
Its been a very traumatic week for us all. Lil's gave birth on the early hours of Tuesday Morning and we found the Foal dead. Lil then became extremely ill and we have had the Vet here every day.
Her body just went into Toxic Shock, we tried everything to help her including intravenous antibiotics, pain killers, syringing Electro Light Solution into her and giving her injections of Penicillin. But by yesterday afternoon, I could see that she was in distress. So called the Vet out again and we agreed to let her go peacefully.
Thank you to everyone that sent messages of support this week, especially all my friends & family on facebook. We all really appreciated your kindness.
Lil will be greatly missed, as she was one of the most sweetest Pony's and we Loved her dearly..

Thought, I'd share some pictures, I took of the Ponies on 28th January.
Colossus is certainly living up to his name and is a really Chunky little man. He is fascinated by our Cats.
All the Colts have got really thick shaggy winter coats, when you put your hands through the coat, you can feel the heat trapped in there. It must will like walking around wrapped in your own Duvet. They certainly need that Coat at the moment, as its freezing cold here.
If anyone is interested Hericus Apollo, Hericus Barnabus (Barney), is really tiny and is still smaller then last years foals. Hericus Bucephalus (Beau), Hericus Cronus, are all now for Sale. The White Stuff...

We've got quite a bit of Snow here, but not as much as some people across the rest of the UK. Although the temperature in the day is not getting much above freezing.
The Snow was lovely at first, but now I wish it would melt and go away.
It just causes so many problems for everyone.
We are lucky that our Ponies have plenty of food, we had our Haylage order, delivered just before this lot hit.
The Girls have huge wagon Wheels of Haylage, in their fields and the Boys are being fed with small bales of hay and Haylage. Plus they are all getting hard feed as well.
The only real problem we are having is the water, as it keeps freezing. We have a huge storage tank in the Stables which is filled with water, so at least we can bucket the water to the water troughs. If you click on the pictures they should pop up bigger.

The Weather here has been appalling. Although we haven't had the Snow, that the rest of the Country has had, it's been bitterly cold here, with a penetrating Frost, the temperature is not getting much above freezing, if at all.
The Ponies all have their thick Winter coats and look like little Teddy Bears.

First Day Out With Mum..

Yesterday morning, our friend Tash came up to see the Foals. She helped Mick usher them out with their Mum's. Min's Foal was quite happy to stay laying down in the stable, so in the end I told Tash to pick him up. Which she did and carried him out through the gate.
We only left them out for a few hours and then brought them back in to the Stables, where they all promptly fell asleep..

Here's some more pictures of Katie's Colt Foal, that I've taken today. Katie is a first time Mum and has done herself proud.
I did have the Vet out this morning, as she had retained the after birth, but blow me down the Vet walked through the Stable Door and she dropped it. But I'd rather be safe then sorry.
We think his colouring is Silver Dun.
There is an ongoing debate, about both the Foals names at the moment. But I'll let you know as soon as we have reached an agreement.
I'm having quite a job getting some decent photographs of Min's Foal, as she is very Foal proud and as soon as I point the camera she pushes the foal behind her..
But I'm sure over the next few days and weeks, I'll be boring everyone with pictures...

Crap End To A Crap Week..

I was so excited earlier on this evening, one of the Mares was running milk, so we knew that a Foal was imminent. Nikki, was on the phone telling me all about today and how much she'd enjoyed KDF and I was telling her that we knew a Foal was going to be born tonight.
Unfortunately, much to the Mare's and my distress the Foal was dead. We tried to revive it, but it was still born.
As you can imagine what with having, to have Muffy put to sleep this week, this has really knocked me for six tonight. As Debie said, we have obviously hit the Good Luck Fairy with the Shitty Stick.
We have two Mares left to Foal, but I can't even get excited about it now. Until they are here safe and sound. So much for me having no stress. So you can see why its a crap end, to a crap week for me.

Today is a very, very sad day.
We have had to have the Vet out to put Muffy, one of our Ponies (Barney's Mum) to sleep.
She's been very poorly over the last few weeks and has had a very rapid weight loss. We've tried everything, to get her well and to get her interested in eating and earlier this week we really thought we had cracked it and she'd started eating a little, with the help of the Vet giving her supplements, Vitamin injections and Antibiotics, blood tests and me picking buckets of grass for her and tempting her with any feed that we could get her to eat.
Unfortunately this morning, she went down and no amount of trying could get her to stand up. I checked her mouth and her gums, which were very white, so I came indoors and rang the Vet and he came straight away, we felt it was kinder for him to put her to sleep, then her just to lay there and fade away.

Do you remember this little chap, Hericus Arcemedes better known as Archie?.
Well today Carol the lady that brought him sent me a couple of photographs of him.
Carol said that he is spoilt to distraction, Loves attention and a mint.
Hasn't he grown into a handsome pony. I'm so pleased that he went to such a lovely home.

Getting Ready...

Just thought I'd better post a little update on what's going on here.
We put six mares to two of our Stallions last year and I know that three of them are in Foal. Katie and BB to Viscount and Min to Kai. I'm are still not sure about Tinkerbell, Lemoney and Tigerlily. They may or may not be. Hopefully, we will have a stress free foaling this year and all the foals will all arrive safely.
Unfortunately, I'm still not well enough to show the Ponies this year myself. I'm hoping that Harry may do it for me, but you know what teenagers are like.

Little Raggamuffins...

I took the top two photographs of Beau and Barney a few days ago. They look a right pair of Raggamuffins. They have such thick Winter Coats, with the baby coat still mixed in there as well. Beau has already started to lose some of his but little Barney hasn't. Its like a thick Woolly jumper. Barney reminds me of A.L.F, do you remember that programme, Alien Life Form?.
I went down into the little Paddock yesterday,
it was lovely to actually spend some quality time with them both, as I haven't been able to be as hands on as I normally am, due to my ongoing health issues, see Tiny Treasures Blog.
Hopefully, Harry will be doing the shows for me this year, but he needs to hurry up and decide who he wants to show. I'd Love him to show little Apollo, but I think Harry wants to show one of the Girls.

Goytre Napoleon AKA "Neo"

We've had Neo since he was a yearling and we've run him on, with every intention of using him as one of our Stallions.
Unfortunately, when we put Neo through his Stallion assessment, Neo measured in at 90Cm's or 35 and a half inches and is now too big for us to use on our Miniature Mares.
So I've come to a heart breaking decision that my beautiful boy needs to find a new loving home, where he can have some Ladies of his own. It's not fair just to keep him here as a pet, where he will be totally wasted. So today I've put him up for sale on Shetland Pony Classifieds.

Snow Ponies...

Ben took these photographs yesterday for me. As you can see we've had quite a lot of Snow and are due another lot on Sunday & Monday. All the outside taps are frozen, so we are having to run meters of hose pipe down the yard from the Kitchen Sink to make sure all the Ponies have water. Even the water in the Stables resembles frozen slush.

I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year 2010. (Sorry I'm a bit late).

Another decade has gone and a new one has begun. The last decade holds mixed emotions for me. It was the decade where I lost both my parent's, my Mum in 2001 and my Dad in 2003 and so nearly my own life in the latter part of 2009. It also was the start of our families new life in Wales, one that we certainly have no regrets about.
It was also the decade that I started blogging and through this blog, I have met virtually and in person some of the most amazing people on the planet. Yes I'm talking about you my dear friends out there in the blogosphere.
I want to thank you all for you friendship, encouragement and support, especially over the last few months. May 2010 bring you all happiness, health and all you wish for.

Peggy Off To Her New Home..

Our friends Horse, Peggy Sue, went to her new home yesterday. She has been with us since 24Th July, this year. Its going to be strange no seeing her wandering round the fields with our little ones.
We now have one of our large stables free again. So the next job is to take Beau and Barney away from their Mums and get them weaned and the vet up to Micro chip them and their registrations sent off to Shetland House. I have already ordered the chips and they are hopefully with the vet. This should have been by done by now, but what with me ending up in Hospital for three weeks and now recovering from my Heart surgery, it didn't get done.

Oh What Fun We Had.... Medieval Fun Day

Before you trawl through these photographs, please look at the previous two posts that I made late last night..
We all had a brilliant Medieval Day.
We were a bit worried in the morning as the heavens opened and it tipped down with rain, but at 10.40am the rain stopped and out came the Sun. Ready for the Fair to open at 11am.
There were lots of different displays on Horseback put on by the Children. Meg's display was brilliant, she did acrobatics and she used a special skipping rope and the horse skipped over the rope while she was in the saddle. It was amazing to watch.
Harry's display went off without a hitch and he really played up to the crowd and got them Booing him, especially when he rode round with the severed head and then promptly threw it at me outside the ring.
Lowri played the part of the White Knight and did a Dressage Display on her Horse Romeo.
Carol did a display with her Shetland Pony to Music.
Unfortunately I missed quite a lot of the displays as I was running the Guess The Weight Of The Goats and Name The Pony, so Ben took lots of photo's for me.
There was also Stalls for everyone to have a go. "Splat The Rat", The Coconut Shy (Harry managed to win four!), The Lucky Dip, Tombola, Face Painting and Jewellery Making, Story Telling, "The Stocks", a licensed Bar and a Hog Roast and a huge Bouncy Castle Slide. There were also props all round the field which you could have your photograph taken in or on. The West Wales Farmers Bloodhounds also put on a display with the Hounds (please click on their name to be taken over to their website.) The Otter Hound Puppies were so cute. Jimmy Juggle who greeted people at the gate on Stilts dressed as a Knight, then did a Circus Skills workshop with the Children in the morning and in the afternoon performed his Fire Juggling Skills. (If you click on his name it will take you over to his Web Site).. We also run a Raffle, with some brilliant Prizes which had all been donated and no I didn't win the weekend away! Katie, Ben's girlfriend won an enormous Pig cuddly toy. I have no idea how she's going to get it back to Scotland. Think we will have to send it.
In the afternoon in the arena in the field we had Tug Of War, Juniors and then the Adults. Piggy Back Jousting and Space Hopper Hurdles. The Space Hopper Hurdles was one of the funniest things I've witnessed in a long time. If I hadn't been to the Loo before I watched it, I'd have peed myself laughing. The Adult races were Hysterical with lots of cheating going on with the Men's team, mentioning no names John! Ben and Harry did the Piggy Back Jousting and they won their first Joust, then in the Semi Final it all went Pear shaped and they both ended up on the ground.
We took hundreds of photographs, which I've loaded into my Photobucket, if you'd like to take a look, I bet the Space Hopper Hurdle ones will bring a smile to your face.
At the end of the Day, Donna asked me whether I'd like to keep a sheild as a momento, can you quess where I told her to stick it.. LOL..

So all in all a wonderful, exhausting Medieval Day and a great Big Thank you to Donna, John, Les and Jen for allowing it all to happen..

It was slightly changed at the end. As he chopped the head off he went back and claimed it from Donna and then rode round the Sand School Shaking it at the audience..

Practise For The Medieval Day

Harry had a practise in his Armour up at the Riding School today.
We just wanted to make sure that the rattle wouldn't frighten Ebony and that Harry could move properly on Horse back. Ebony will be in full custom as well, as the Red Dragon. But she only had her wings and tail on today.
Harry's friends Tilly and Meg are also doing displays on Horse Back, which include Skipping, Acrobatics's and Synchronised Jumping.
I've got some more Shields to paint and Donna asked if I'd go up again on Monday, to help out with painting some more props.
Debbie one of the other Mum's has painted some brilliant Knights and Medieval Tents to attach to the jumps.

Nevern Show 2009

Yesterday we went to the Nevern Show. It was a really lovely day, but unfortunately I forgot the camera. The show had been moved to a new venue this year and the surroundings were beautiful.
Harry's showed Min and got 2nd place in the Barren Mare class. He was placed 5th in Coloured Class.
I showed Warrior and got 4th in the Stallion Class and 4th in the Coloured Class.
So all in all a good day.

Harry's Armour..

Mick's parents came up on Sunday and brought Harry's Armour up for the Medieval day. He couldn't wait to try it on.
Mick's cousin Steve has lent the outfit to us. It is a film prop from the film First Knight with Richard Gere and Sean Connery. This is the armour worn by Richard Gere, when he played the part of Lancelot.
Steve's business is based at Elstree Studios, if you click on Steve's name it will take you over to the web site.
We just need to get Harry a long sleeved black top to wear underneath. He's going to take it up to the Riding School this week to practise wearing this lot on Horse back!
Yesterday, Harry and I spent the whole morning at the Riding School with some of the other Children painting Shields.. Hopefully, we now have enough for the fun day...
Mick's parent's left this morning and tomorrow Ben comes home from Scotland with Katie and we are also at a Horse Show. So this afternoon I'll be bathing the Ponies. Just waiting for the rain to stop!

We Have A Visitor..

We have a visitor of the four legged kind.
This is Peggy Sue, she belongs to our friends who are moving to Wales shortly. She is a Section D, registered Welsh Cob.
Peggy was born with a large birthmark on her left hand side and no one wanted her, except for our friend Frank. She can be ridden as the birthmark, does not affect her at all. She arrived yesterday and has already made herself quite at home, and seems to be totally intrigued with our little ones.
She's 16 years old is a lovely gentle lady.

Tivy Side Show 2009

We went to Tivy Side Agricultural Show today. But unfortunately no photographs as I forgot the camera.
Harry was showing Min again today, but was in a big class and didn't come home with any Rosettes.
I took Warrior in the Stallion Class and he got a second. He was then awarded a S.P.S.B.S Rosette for the Best Miniature.
So all in all a good day.
I'm really mad at myself because when we came home, I rang my friend with the results and we were talking about Cardigan Show. I've just double checked and I've realised I forgot to send my entries in and the entries have now closed. Oh well there's always next year.

Cothi Bridge Show 2009

Today we went to the South & West Wales Shetland Pony Group Show at Cothi Bridge, this show was affiliated to S.P.S.B.S..
This was Harry's first real show, and I think he was a bit lost to start with. But after the first time in the ring and some direction from the Judge, he really improved. He finally came away with two Rosettes. Harry was placed 2nd in the Piebald or Skewbald Pony in hand, any age, any height and 3rd in the Child Handler 11-16 years.
Unfortunately, Mick had gone back to the car with the Camera for Harry's last class, so I couldn't get any pictures. But Yvette from the Timberland Stud very kindly took some photo's on her camera, which she said she'd email me later.
It wasn't mine or Warriors day today and we didn't get placed...

EXPERTS are urging all horse owners to take part in a government consultation over plans to introduce an annual "tax" on farm animals — possibly to include horses.

Defra is proposing to set up an independent body of animal health and industry experts to take decisions on animal health issues — for example on future outbreaks of diseases from foot-and-mouth to African horse sickness (AHS).

If it goes ahead, the scheme would start in 2012 and, if horses are included, Defra estimates each animal would cost about £10.50 per year. This sum would be in addition to current passport costs and would contribute towards dealing with exotic diseases.

A Defra spokesman was keen to stress that the plans were in very early stages, saying that although government documents state the fee "could also cover horses and their keepers" it does not mean they will definitely be included.

But she added: "The main rule of thumb remains that all keepers of disease-susceptible species should contribute to the costs of exotic disease control unless there are compelling reasons as to why they should not."

The British Horse Society (BHS) has cautioned against any further financial burdens being placed on horse owners in the current economic climate unless there were very clear and necessarily reasons for doing so.

BHS director of welfare Mark Weston said: "I would urge all horse owners to take part in the consultation process."

We went to the Vale Of Clettwr Hunt Horse Show today, which is a little local show very close to where we live. It was Harry's first time ever in the ring, he managed to get a Third and a Fourth with Minuet. Warrior got a 1st..
We have another show tomorrow which is an affiliated show, so Harry will have to wear a hat.

Goytre Napoleon Aka Neo

I took these photograph's a couple of days ago of our beautiful boy Neo.
We've had Neo since he was a yearling and ran him on, with every intention of using him as one of our Stallions. He has fantastic breeding.
Last year I put him through his Voluntary Vet Assessment for his Stallion License. He passed with flying colours.
Unfortunately, Neo measured in at 90Cm's or 35 and a half inches and is now too big for us to use on our Miniature Mares.
So I've come to a heart breaking discussion that my beautiful boy needs to find a new loving home, where he can have some Ladies of his own. It's not fair just to keep him here as a pet, where he will be totally wasted, so I'll shortly be putting him up for sale..

Playing With The Foals..

New Arrival Born Monday 8th June...

After all the waiting, there was a knock on the Door on Monday Evening at 8pm telling us that Muffy had just given birth in our drive.
It was a mad dash up the drive to find Muffy laying on the floor with the foal standing beside her. I would not have minded but we'd only checked her a little while before.
After the shock birth on the drive. Mum and Baby were moved into a nice warm stable to do their bonding.
We made sure baby had his first drink and Pooh! (Yes you do have to check everything). Then went indoors to have a celebratory cup of tea. After about 30 minutes, we went back to check everything was OK and I wasn't happy with the look and behaviour of Muffy, who was stamping the ground, getting down, then up again. So called the emergency vet out. The poor girl had Colic and boy was she in a state. We walked her round and round the stable, waiting for the vet to arrive, the poor foal must have been so dizzy following its Mum. The vet arrived gave her a couple of jabs, checked all was well at the birth end and we stood with her and watched the medication take effect. Our Dutch Vet Wim is brilliant. By now it is Midnight!..
Saw the Vet off then came in for another cuppa. Then back down the stable's at 1.30am to check all was well and baby was feeding. Finally at 3am, went to bed...
Muffy was perfectly fine at 7am the next morning and baby was up and about and feeding really well.
We noticed after he'd dried off in the stable, that he has a little lightening streak on his bottom, do we have another Harry Potter Fan in our midst? or was he kissed by the Angels?.
There is still some debate about his name, so we are just calling him baby at the moment.

Well we are still awaiting the arrival of our other Foals. The Mares are all fit to burst, but just seem to be crossing their legs.
We've had some beautiful weather over the weekend and I really thought that the Mares would Foal.. But nothing!
Little Beau is two weeks old today, I took these photographs of him yesterday, after he's been galloping round the field. Jasmine walked him back into the barn for a well earned nap.

Our new arrival now has a name. After much family debate, his name will be Bucephalus.
Bucephalus was the name of Alexander The Great's Horse and means "Great Horse".. We will call him Beau for short..
We have another two Mares who look like they are fit to burst, so hopefully we will have some more Foals this week.

Our 1st New Arrival...

We have had our First Foal this morning at approx 7am. A beautifully marked Skewbald Colt with an Eel Stripe. Mum and baby doing well.
He hasn't got a name yet, but will by the end of the day.
In the photo with Mum, you can just see his Dad, peeking under the rail to have a look at his new arrival.
This is Jasmine's first ever foal and the first ever foal from Kai and what a little cracker he is.

We are still awaiting the arrival of our first foal of the season. I'm on tender hooks and definitely not getting much sleep. The Ponies look fit to burst. As you can see by these photo's of Jasmine.
Every year I watch Fairytail Miniatures Foaling News. Selwyn & Janette, do a sterling job of updating their site every day. They also share all the good and bad news and it is always very informative and sometimes very sad.
We are very fortunate to have two fillies that were bred by them, Fairytail Chi-Chi and our first foal Hericus Athena by their Champion Stallion Romany Paco. Athena is the header picture on this blog.

After speaking to Sandra Seward, who is the Secretary of The South & West Wales Shetland Pony Group, and my telephone call to Jane who runs the website. Our Stud Hericus has now been added to the Studs on the web site.
The site is really informative and if you click on the Stud button, it takes you over to a map of Wales, with Yellow dots on. If you hoover over the dots, it brings up the name of the Stud and then if you click on it, it takes you to our web site, which then has a link to this blog.
This picture was taken of Warrior at the Lampeter Show last year, when he won 1st Place, we'd just come out of the ring and my friend Karen was giving him a congratulate scratch on the nose.

I like the foals to come in contact with lots of different objects so that they have no fear. I had my membership card through from The Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society yesterday.
Members now have on-line access to the Society Stud Book and Registry on-line.
What a brilliant idea. I spent some time yesterday going through all my Ponies records. You can look up member details, animal details, pedigrees and progeny lists.
Hopefully, later on in the year they are going to add all the show results to the database as well. They've also said that in the future they may also move onto on-line applications to register foals, transfers, death and do show and sale entries.
Makes every one's life so much easier. I can now print of official Pedigree Certificates for any of the Foals which we sell, instead of writing them out by hand.

We've had Snow all through the night and it's blowing a Blizzard at the moment.
The Ponies took shelter in the Barn last night, but we still had to remove snow from a couple of the little ones tails, as they were dragging snowballs, around this morning behind them..
Lucky for us the water butts haven't frozen yet, just gone like slush puppy. But the outside taps are all frozen. As we knew the snow was coming, we filled up loads of containers with water yesterday and put them inside and they haven't frozen.

I had an email from my cousin's Micky & Bev this evening, to tell me how Amigo got on at his first show. He jumped a lovely double clear. Lucky for them that it was indoors, but was still a lot for him to contend with what with the echo, lights and also as they go down the course, they are jumping towards a cafe, which is behind large glass windows, so the Horses can see movement and light reflected in the glass. Apparently the ground outside was treacherous and one Horse went over trapping the Rider's legs. "Rooney" who rides Amigo, was over the moon and she was like a dog with twenty tails to wag.
"Congratulations Amigo & Rooney", I think your be at Olympia before long...

Happy New Year Everyone, lets hope it's a good one. While Mick's parents were staying with us over Christmas & the New Year, we managed to get the Stable doors fitted. It's been extremely cold here over the last couple of days and this morning the temperature was Minus 7.. Even the water buckets in the stables had ice in them. All the outside taps were frozen, so we've had to run water via hose from the kitchen and then bucket the water to the trough's outside.. I've taken these pictures today..
The top photo's are of the girls stuffing their faces on some hay and the bottom photo's are the new stable doors..

Took some photo's of the Ponies today. Can you believe all the mud. Little Warrior's coat was a lovely red, it's now a lovely muddy colour.
I opened up the little paddock in the home field for the girls and they were soon in there, chomping at the grass. Just wish the ground would dry up a bit around the gates.

Stables On Hold..

There's no further work being done on the Stable's at the moment, as Mick had a very bad accident on Sunday, with the table saw.. He cut the top of his thumb off, making a bird table, would you believe it. Did think to start off with that he would need plastic surgery, but the Doctor's said that as it was a Diagonal cut, running from the top & down the side that it should heal itself. He's having to have, the wound dressed every three days.
The first picture was taken on Tuesday, when the first lot of dressing came off and the second photo was taken today.. Gross... But it seems to be healing nicely...

Little Teddy Bears..

Took some Photo's of the foals this afternoon. Its so hard to get any decent photograph's in the Stable, cause they follow me around all the time and want cuddles. Managed to get a couple and then got Mick to take a couple, while I was on my knees in the Stable giving them a cuddle. Their coats are so thick now, like little Teddy Bears...

The Stable Doors have been made, just waiting a coat of paint and to be hung. These are not full size Stable Doors in height, as I like my little ones to be able to see over the tops..

The render on the walls in the barn is finally finished. The Floor has been levelled, all it needs now is a coat of Unibond and Paint. Oh and to make the doors and hang them.

As you can see the Barn is coming along nicely. The render is starting to go on the walls now, had to wait for the cement to go off ,on the floor first.

As you can see, we've been busy here. The walls separating the stables are in, they just need to be rendered now. Then the floor needs levelling off.

I'd like to introduce a friend of mine Debbie Dunbar. Debbie is a very accomplished Equestrian Artist. I first saw some photographs of Debbie's work at the Riding School that Harry attends. I can only say that her paintings, which are all done in Oils are breathtaking.
She has done commissions for H.R.H Prince of Wales Private Collection, The Kings Troop and the Welsh Pony & Cob Society, to name but a few.

Barn Continued....

Today the old feeding troughs were taken out of the Barn. We gained at least another 2FT by removing them. The blocks laid out on the floor are roughly were the new Stable walls will be built. Mind you all that Rubble on the floor has now got to be moved, so think of me tomorrow on the Wheelbarrow.

Archie's New Home

Just got back from dropping Archie at his new home. He was really good in the trailer and when we got there, he walked lovely up the Lane to the stables. I'm over the Moon that he's gone to such a lovely home. (Remember this is the first Pony I've ever sold & I Love him to bits).
He's got two little friends in the stable next door Monty & Gizmo, but their not quite as friendly as Archie.
Carol showed me the beautiful Name plates , that she's had made for their stable doors. Black slate with each of their names engraved on them. I have a feeling that their all going to be thoroughly spoilt.
Hopefully we will see Archie at the shows next year.
I wish Carol & Tony every success with him.

Today, we've taken out the Cattle bars in the Barn. It looks even bigger in there now. Floor needs to be levelled, and block walls put in for more stabling. What a difference, can't believe the space.

The downstairs of the barn has finally been cleared of all the accumulation of junk. I'd forgotten how big it was in there.. It going to be transformed into more stabling. Just another job to do...

Foals In The Garden...

Let the Foals out into the little paddock for a good run about. Also opened the gate into the garden, so they can wander at their leisure. Took these piccies today. Their all getting their thick winter coats. Aphrodite looks like she has a beard.

Mares In Foal ?...

Still not 100% sure, which of our Mares are in Foal for next year. Harry went round with the Stethoscope, to have a listen for a Foal Heart beat.
Hoping that our dear Cravat has left us with a legacy, be wonderful if he has. Especially if one, turns out to be Silver Dun like him. His girls were Minuet, Bebe, Tinkerbell and Katie. If he did manage to do the deed, his offspring will be due from the 3rd May 2009.
It was the first time this year that Kai, was used on Mares, so don't know how many he managed to get in Foal. He was running with Lemony, Evie, Chrizzy, Lil, Muffy, Jasmine & Cameo. It will be a complete surprise for everyone to see what colours he throws. His offspring are due from the 11th May 2009.

The Picture of the Black Horse, in her bridle is Ebony. She is a Cob Cross and this is the Horse that Harry rides. She has the most beautiful nature..
